Legislative Intern

The Office of State Representative Vincent Perez is seeking Capitol Interns to support the work of House District 77 in our Austin Capitol Office.

Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply. This internship will begin during the legislative interim, with the possibility of continuing into the 90th Texas Legislative Session based on performance and office needs.

This is an unpaid internship, though class credit may be arranged if applicable. Interns will gain hands-on experience in a legislative office while learning about the policymaking process, communications, constituent services, and the day-to-day operations of the Texas Legislature.

This opportunity is ideal for students interested in public policy, government, community engagement, communications, and legislative affairs.

Location: Texas Capitol, Austin, Texas

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Interns may:

• Track legislation, conduct policy research, and prepare written reports or memos.

• Attend and report on legislative hearings, briefings, and Capitol meetings.

• Draft and edit communications, including newsletters, graphics, social media content, and constituent correspondence.

• Assist with constituent inquiries and requests.

• Assist in planning and staffing meetings, events, and press conferences.

• Maintain contact lists of elected officials, stakeholders, community organizations, and constituent groups.

• Provide day-to-day administrative and office support.

• Support other legislative and Capitol office priorities as needed.

Qualifications

• Current undergraduate or graduate student preferred.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to interact professionally with constituents, stakeholders, and public officials.

• Self-starter with the ability to work independently, think critically, and problem-solve.

• Interest in public policy, government, community engagement, communications, and legislative affairs.
