Job Description
State Senator Jane Nelson has opportunities for unpaid internships in her Capitol and Committee offices, open from 8:30 to 5:30, Monday through Friday. Internship hours are flexible based on student class schedules and related needs. Only applicants who are able to commit to an internship lasting through June 2011, when the next legislative session ends, will be considered. Senator Nelson is a Republican representing Senate District 12, which includes parts of Denton and Tarrant Counties. Additional information about her is available online at www.senate.state.tx.us. Primary duties are to assist Senator and office staff with: -Correspondence -Constituent casework -Preparation and distribution of press releases, articles, speeches, newsletters, etc. -Research for legislation, press releases, articles, speeches, newsletters, etc. -Assistance for finance staff on budgetary issues -Preparation for Senate committee hearings -Maintenance of office files, database, media lists, reference shelves, etc. -Monitoring district press -General administrative tasks The above list is not necessarily all-inclusive; interns may become involved with other aspects of the work in a legislative office as needed.
