Job Description
SUMMARY: The Capitol Office of State Senator César J. Blanco is currently seeking passionate, hardworking applicants for a legislative internship. The internship will offer students the opportunity to explore their interest in public service through hands-on experience in a governmental office. Qualified candidates should expect to work at least 15 hours per week. The Legislative Intern will work directly with the legislative staff to implement the Senator's legislative plan, create and execute casework and outreach goals, and assist with other Capitol Office functions as assigned. Multiple positions are available for each semester. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Research legislation in various policy areas including health and human services, higher education, transportation and veteran affairs; • Attend relevant briefings, meetings, and interim committee hearings; • Create talking points for speaking engagements; • Monitor political and legislative movement; SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: • Strong oral and written communication skills; • Thorough knowledge of local, state and federal agencies and departments; • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others; • Thoroughness and careful attention to detail; • Strong computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database management;
