Job Description
We are looking for responsible, dedicated, and professional candidates that are capable of performing the responsibilities outlined below. Incumbents will be guided closely by an assigned mentor while they participate in the structured internship program as well as performing various tasks as assigned by members of Texas Star Alliance. The program typically runs concurrently with the Fall, Spring, or Summer session of the candidate’s institution of higher education. Specific start and end dates are flexible depending upon the candidate’s availability and the group’s needs. Responsibilities: Conduct research on specific legislation as directed by principals Produce written analysis of polices and research in a clear and concise manner Maintain an ongoing understanding of political news and current events Development of data and resources as directed Running errands as needed General office maintenance duties Operate reception desk (i.e., answer phone calls, greet clients and visitors, filing, etc.) Interns will produce and deliver an oral presentation on a topic of their choosing. This report should discuss the relevant context, historic and current legislation, and the political climate on their subject. Required Qualifications: Passion for Texas politics and policy Experienced in Microsoft office tools Strong analytical and critical thinking skills Proficient in verbal and written communication Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity creating social media content and strategies Experience with legislative language Competent understanding of the Texas legislature and lawmaking process About Texas Star Alliance: Texas Star Alliance, an integrated public affairs group, is seeking several dedicated and hard-working individuals to assist in the day-to-day activities of the group as unpaid interns. The ideal candidate would be at least 18 years of age, have reliable transportation, and interested in government and available 8-12 hours per week in segments no shorter than 2 hours.
