Job Description
State Senator Carol Alvarado is seeking a part-time Fall intern in her Austin office located in the Texas Capitol building. This position requires you to be a liaison of the Senate office to the constituents and stakeholders of Texas Senate District 6. This position requires strong writing and clear communication skills; must be able to multi-task and meet critical deadlines; formulate and research legislative issues regarding certain policy areas; serve as the Senator's liaison in meetings with constituents, state agencies, interest groups and other legislative offices; and other duties as assigned by the Senator and/or the chief of staff and legislative director. Qualifications - Ability to maintain confidential information - Strong organizational skills - Flexibility to work some nights, weekends and holidays - Clear, concise communication skills, with an emphasis on writing - Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a high-pressure environment - Professional appearance and personality, and ability to work well with others in a close office environment - Research competence and skills other than use of internet search engines - Strong professional ethics, mature judgment and attention to detail - Familiarity with standard Microsoft Office suite programs, Dropbox, IPad/IPhone applications and all social media platforms
