Job Description
The Office of Government Relations, Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, is interviewing for 2 interns during the fall semester. The position reports to the Director of the Government Relations and works side by side with the GR Team. As in intern with the Texas Department of Family Services Government Relations division, you’ll be working closely with the team to track legislation from the Texas legislature. To support the GR team, you may be asked to provide spreadsheets, binders, or summaries of bills and sit in on high level department meetings. You’ll have an inside look at the operations of a government agency and the legislative process. By the end of the internship, you’ll fully understand how a bill goes from originating in a chamber of the Texas legislature to affecting the lives of Texas youth and families. You will be involved in DFPS council meetings, reading and printing bill texts, bill summaries, and implementation plans will be common responsibilities. Basic familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word is preferred. Schedules are flexible, you will have your own space to work in with a group of professionals who love their job.
