Organizing Director

Council Member Zo Qadri is running for reelection to continue building an Austin that is more affordable, more inclusive, and more responsive to the people who call it home. Our campaign is rooted in the belief that local government works best when residents are organized, engaged, and empowered to shape the future of their neighborhoods.

District 9 is one of Austin's most diverse and civically active districts, stretching from Downtown and West Campus to Hyde Park, Cherrywood, Mueller, North Loop, and Bouldin Creek. Winning this race will require a modern, people-powered organizing program that meets voters where they are, builds lasting community relationships, and develops volunteers into neighborhood leaders.

The Organizing Director will lead all aspects of the campaign's grassroots organizing and field operation. This person will report to the Campaign Manager, and will lead the campaign's organizing strategy, recruit and develop volunteers, oversee voter contact programs, cultivate relationships with community organizations, and help build the volunteer infrastructure necessary to re-elect Council Member Zo Qadri.

Responsibilities: The Organizing Director will:

• Develop and implement the campaign's overall organizing and field strategy from launch through Election Day.

• Build and manage a volunteer-driven organizing program focused on voter contact, community engagement, and leadership development.

• Recruit, train, mentor, and retain volunteers while developing neighborhood leadership teams capable of independently organizing within their communities.

• Design and execute weekly canvasses, phone banks, text banks, relational organizing programs, visibility events, and other voter contact efforts.

• Establish organizing goals, volunteer recruitment benchmarks, and voter contact metrics while regularly evaluating progress and adapting strategy.

• Manage volunteer onboarding, scheduling, communications, recognition, and retention to build a positive and sustainable campaign culture.

• Maintain clean and accurate organizing data in NGP VAN/MiniVAN and oversee voter contact reporting.

• Produce regular organizing reports tracking volunteer growth, voter contact goals, and organizing progress.

• Perform other campaign-related duties as needed.

Successful candidates will have many of the following qualifications:

• At least one full cycle of electoral organizing experience or comparable experience in labor, advocacy, issue organizing, or community organizing.

• Demonstrated success recruiting, training, and managing volunteers or organizing teams.

• Experience organizing communities that have historically been underserved by traditional political outreach, including renters, workers, students, young voters, communities of color, immigrant communities, and coalition partners.

• Experience building partnerships with labor organizations, advocacy groups, neighborhood associations, campus organizations, Democratic clubs, and community-based organizations.

• Strong understanding of voter contact strategy, volunteer management, and leadership development.

• Working knowledge of NGP VAN, MiniVAN, Scale to Win, Google Workspace, and other organizing tools.

• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting ambitious deadlines.

• A collaborative leadership style and commitment to fostering an inclusive volunteer culture.

• Ability to work independently, solve problems creatively, and adapt quickly in a fast-paced campaign environment.

• Reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout District 9.

• Availability to work evenings and weekends, particularly during major organizing pushes and Get Out The Vote.
