About Us: Over the Lege is the number one, and some say only, political satire show based solely on the Texas Legislature. Our show blends humor, sharp political commentary, and live performances to provide a unique and entertaining perspective on the workings of Texas politics. It’s a little Saturday Night Live meets The Daily Show meets America’s Got Talent.
Job Description: Will work directly under the creator/host/producer. We are seeking a highly organized and enthusiastic Production Assistant to support the smooth operation of Over the Lege during our writer and rehearsal period starting mid July and show dates from October 11-13, 2024. The ideal candidate will be a team player with a passion for live production, political satire, and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. They must both take direction well and work independently.
Key Responsibilities:
Rehearsal Preparation:
Coordinate writers and cast for writer’s meetings and rehearsals. This includes organizing contact lists, emailing/texting/slacking/etc. The writers and cast about upcoming rehearsals and meetings and following up with them to ensure their participation.
Coordinate and maintain google calendar with rehearsal and meeting information.
Take notes during rehearsals and meetings and perform tasks from those notes.
Find rehearsal venues and coordinate use of space.
Keep everything organized so if we’re abducted by aliens, other people can immediately pick up and produce the show.
Pre-Show Preparation:
Assist in setting up the venue, including stage, seating, and backstage areas.
Help organize and distribute scripts, props, and costumes.
Coordinate with the technical team to ensure all audio-visual equipment is in place and functioning correctly.
During the Show:
Provide support to the director, stage manager, and performers as needed.
Assist with quick changes and prop handoffs.
Manage audience seating and handle any special accommodations.
Monitor backstage areas to ensure a smooth and safe operation.
Post-Show:
Assist in the breakdown and cleanup of the venue.
Help with the inventory and storage of props, costumes, and equipment.
Provide feedback and report any issues or improvements for future productions.
Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in theater production, live events, or a related field is preferred.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing situations.
A keen interest in politics and satire is a plus.
Must be available for all writer’s meetings, rehearsals and show dates and able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Anticipated schedule is 5-10hrs/week in July, 10-20hrs/week in August/September, very intense show week October 7-13th.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
Comfortable standing or walking for extended periods.
