Job Description:
The office of Rep. Donna Howard is hiring a policy analyst for the 2023 legislative session to cover a variety of issues, particularly as they relate to healthcare, education, state affairs, energy, and the budget. Given the demands of the legislative session, availability and familiarity with the Texas Legislature are both important qualities for applicants. The position offers a stipend, to be determined based on the qualifications of the applicant, with the expectation of at least 30 hours of office time a week. The preferred candidate will be a strong writer, have an understanding of the legislative process in Texas, and the prominent issues and political dynamics of the state. Primary duties will include staffing legislation, conducting policy research, developing talking points, monitoring relevant committees, responding to constituents, and analyzing legislation. This is an ideal position for someone aiming for a career in state government or politics. The 88th Legislative Session should offer plenty of opportunities to engage with public policy in a meaningful way, to develop a professional network, and gain policy experience within the State Capitol. Former interns have gone on to work with Legislative offices, state agencies, the Chamber of Commerce, non-profit advocacy groups, and consulting firms.
