Job Description

About Us:
Great Society Strategies is a Democratic direct voter contact firm. We knock doors, run phone programs, and collect petition signatures for campaigns across the country. We won a Reed Award for Best Paid Field in 2024 for our work on Mary Peltola in Alaska, and our people have been recognized by the Pollies and the AAPC.
We are a small, flat team. There is no layer of account managers between you and the work. If you are good, you will be handed things that matter faster than you would be anywhere else.

About the Fellowship:
This is an operations job. You are helping run the machine that talks to voters: recruiting and scheduling canvassers, keeping the voter file clean, checking that the data coming back from the field is real, building the reports that go to clients, and researching the races we are trying to win.
It is not a canvassing job. You will spend time in the field because you cannot manage a canvass you have never worked, but the job is running programs, not walking turf all semester.
You will spend your time on some mix of

  • Field operations. Staffing and scheduling canvass shifts, tracking turf and production, solving the
problems that come up at 7am on a Saturday.
  • Phone program operations. Building and monitoring phonebanks, managing dialers and scripts, tracking
    contact rates.
  • Voter file and list work. VAN list pulls, universe building, turf cutting, keeping the data usable.
  • Quality control. Auditing canvass data, catching bad shifts, verifying what the field is reporting.
  • Canvasser recruiting. Sourcing, screening, and onboarding the people who knock the doors.
  • Client reporting. Building the dashboards and updates that tell a campaign how its program is going.
  • Research. Districts, turf, opponents, and the races we are trying to win.
  • New business. Prospecting races, researching candidates, and helping put proposals together.
  • Comms and marketing. Social, graphics, and the things that make the firm look like the firm we are.
Application Instructions

Send the following to careers@greatsocietystrategies.com with the subject line "Political Consulting Fellow - [Your Name]"

  • Your resume.
  • A short cover note. Half a page is plenty.
  • Answers to these three questions, a paragraph each: (1) Tell us about a time you had to figure something
out with no one to ask. (2) What is a race, anywhere in the country, that you have opinions about, and
what are they? (3) What does your schedule actually look like this semester?
  • Two references with phone numbers. They can be a professor, a boss, or anyone who has supervised your
    work.

We read applications as they come in and move fast. You will hear back within two weeks. There are two interviews: one with a member of our team, one with the principal.

Paid W-2 position. We run the fellowship year-round and hire on a rolling basis.
Remote, with required in-person field work when canvass projects are running. We cover travel.

This is probably not for you if

  • You are juggling four other commitments and this is the fifth.
  • You need a fixed, predictable schedule every week.
  • You want to write strategy memos and not run operations.
