Job Description
Summary of Functions: Responsible for learning and carrying out a variety of tasks to assist the Federal/State/Local Advocacy department of the Austin Chamber, including research, monitoring committee hearings at the federal/state/local level, data input, preparing reports and other materials for government relations council meetings and key annual events, assist in special events planning and preparation. The intern will assist Federal/State/local Advocacy department staff as needed with other duties as assigned. Primary Responsibilities Federal/State Advocacy: • Conduct public policy research and prepare departmental briefs/reports as needed • Interact with business volunteers, staff of elected officials, Chamber members, and other professionals • Attend/monitor state legislative committee hearings and/or interim hearings as needed and write summary • Assist with Public Policy Events • Assist with preparation of materials/documents for all advocacy council meetings • Assist with Central Texas Day at the Capitol • Maintain database of Central Texas federal/state staff • Attend public policy events and write summaries as needed • Support logistics planning for meetings, special events, set-up/registration and materials, note taking etc. • Perform other duties as assigned Secondary responsibilities local/regional: • Monitor/Summarize City Council Committee meetings • Monitor/summarize County Work Sessions • Assist in City/County agenda preparation • Assist with Local Advocacy Council • Maintain database of Central Texas local electeds staff As needed: • Assist in preparing for DC trip • Maintain confidential database contacts through Microsoft Outlook and Excel o Government Relations Council o Transportation Council o Air Services Task Force Council
