Job Description
About the Student Voter Initiative: Our Student Voter Initiative organizing program is a student education and voter registration initiative working to educate and empower Texas students. Our program is designed to support and empower student organizers, building up the next generation of Texas leaders while fostering lasting organizing infrastructure on college campuses across the state. About Student Organizers: Student Organizers are our leaders on college campuses, and the backbone of our efforts to increase young people’s voter participation and civic engagement. Student Organizers will engage, mobilize and register young people, provide civic education to their peers, and activate students into becoming lifelong voters. We’re looking for talented and resourceful organizers who are passionate about building political power for young people in Texas through voter registration and relationship building. This position is a 10-week program running from January 15, 2022 until April 2, 2022. Student Organizers work between 10 and 15 hours per week and report to the Campus Coordinator. Responsibilities: - Canvass for voter registration and commitments to vote on college campuses, community events, and other spaces - Work on a team to execute large-scale voter registration and turnout programs targeting young voters in Texas - Organize and lead workshops, trainings and class presentations on voting, civic engagement and organizing - Build relationships with campus and student leaders to advance the civic engagement of students - Tell the story of the work you do through social media and other means - Manage data and tracking systems with a high level of attention to detail - Use relevant Software & Tools, including: - Google Apps - NGPEveryAction - Social Media Presence (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc) What We’re Looking For: - Currently enrolled as a student at the campus where the position is located - Authenticity in your commitment to organizing as a means for building power for young people in Texas - Commitment to The Student Voter Initiative’s’ mission and the organization’s values, goals, and objectives - Excitement in approaching and talking to hundreds of young people in the community - Experience growing up or working in diverse communities - Eligible to become a Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR) in their county of residence - At least 18 years of age - U.S. Citizen - Spanish language skills are a plus, but not required - Previous organizing experience a plus, but not required - Some travel may be necessary, so access to reliable transportation is a plus. - Availability to work between 10 and 15 hours per week
