Job Description
The Office of Senator Carol Alvarado is seeking a highly motivated and hardworking student for a summer internship position. As an intern in Senator Alvarado's office, you will have the opportunity to assist the staff during the special session of the legislature, gaining valuable hands-on experience in the realm of public policy and government affairs. Responsibilities: 1) Provide support to the office staff by conducting research, drafting memos, and preparing materials for meetings and hearings. 2) Assist in monitoring legislative proceedings, including committee meetings and floor sessions, and provide summaries and analysis as needed. 3) Collaborate with the team to develop policy briefs, reports, and correspondence on various legislative issues. 4) Aid in constituent outreach and engagement, including responding to inquiries, logging correspondence, and organizing town meetings. 5) Assist with district tasks and projects, such as attending community events, conducting outreach initiatives, and coordinating with local organizations. 6) Have the opportunity to work closely with Senator Alvarado's staff on practical tasks related to public policy and legislation. 7) Potentially assist with responsibilities related to Senator Alvarado's role as the Chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus, providing support in caucus meetings, events, and initiatives. Qualifications: 1) Currently enrolled as a student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree. 2) Strong written and verbal communication skills. 3) Excellent research and analytical abilities. 4) Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision. 5) Attention to detail and ability to multitask effectively. 6) Familiarity with public policy and legislative processes is a plus but not required. 7) Enthusiasm for community engagement and public service. Duration and Compensation: This internship is a summer position to end on August 31, 2023. The intern will be expected to work 20-25 hours a week. Compensation for this internship is available in the form of a stipend.
