Second Reading Podcast: The #Txlege holds public hearings on the Uvalde shootings in the wake of the RPT convention in Houston
June 22, 2022 | By: Texas Politics Project

In a new Second Reading Podcast, Jim Henson and Josh Blank discuss public hearings on the Uvalde shootings in Texas, and the implications of the platform proposals that emerge from the Republican Party of Texas's state convention last week in Houston.

While there are plenty of boutique items in the Texas GOP platform that many Texas Republican voters neither agree with or find important, or have any opinion on at all, some of the most prominently flagged items in the press do enjoy widespread support among Texas Republicans, as is evident in our polling.

The report of the RPT platform committee can be found on the convention website. Video of the first day if the Senate Special Committee to Protect All Texans is available in the Senate archives, as is video fo the June 22 meeting of the 1836 Project Advisory Committee, which also came up briefly in the podast.
