The 2025 Texas Legislative Internship Seminar

At the beginning of the last six legislative sessions in Texas, the Texas Politics Project has presented the Texas Legislative Internship Seminar, a day of non-partisan training sessions for interns and new staff members working in and around the Texas Legislature. From professional office behavior to the ins and outs of the legislative process, interns are given the opportunity to hear from professionals from many different walks of Capitol life. The seminar is designed to help prepare students make productive contributions as legislative interns, as well as to introduce them to ethical and practical guidelines for working in the legislative process.

The 2025 TLIS will be taking place on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin on Saturday, January 18, 2025. Registration is required - find more information about the event and register on Eventbrite.

The Texas Legislative Internship Seminar is open to students and new staff members working in any capitol office, and attending any university.

Professional practitioners recruited from the Capitol community have led all the sessions. Programs from previous sessions have included coverage of topics such as:

  • Professional protocols
  • Practical guidelines for working in Capitol offices
  • Ethical guidelines
  • An insiders' view of the legislative process
  • Understanding interactions with the news media

The 2025 Texas Legislative Internship Seminar is sponsored by the Texas Politics Project, the Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life, the University of Texas System, and the Lyndon Baines Johnson School of Public Affairs.
