Communications Intern
The office of State Representative Trey Martinez Fischer seeks an undergraduate or graduate student or recent graduate to serve as a paid Communications Intern for the Fall semester, supporting the representative’s communications team. The Communications Intern will have the opportunity to gain professional experience working with an elected official, and learn more about the legislative process and how communications are critical to that work.
The internship based at the Capitol in Austin; occasional travel to San Antonio is encouraged. This internship position is open until filled.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Draft social media posts, email newsletters, and other content
- Creating and editing video clips
- Proofreading and copyediting
- Staying up-to-date on the latest national, state, and local news
- Researching topics for content
Preferred Qualifications
- Outstanding written and verbal communications, time management, and organizational skills.
- Experience creating content for an organization’s or elected official’s social media accounts.
- Familiarity with Canva, CapCut, Adobe Suite, Google Suite.
- Enthusiasm for learning more about the role of professional communications in the legislative process.
- Availability of at least 20 hours per week, preferably with the ability to work for at least a few hours per day each weekday.
- Occasional availability for time-sensitive projects on evenings and weekends, as needed.
