Job Description
Temporary Position – Summer Internship position will begin June 1, 2020 and end on August 14, 2020 (40 hours per week). Please note: Interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation. DIVISION: Legislative Affairs GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Performs routine (journey-level) clerical work in areas such as legislative relations, administrative support, mail processing, and assists in project management. Work involves answering and routing calls in a professional manner; learning new concepts and applying knowledge; and attending legislative hearings and meetings. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. WORK HOURS: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, 40 hours. Occasional weekend and/or late-evening work may be required. Actual work hours may change based on business need. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs program support for management. •Answers and routes phone calls, takes messages, and greets and directs visitors to appropriate staff. •Develops, coordinates and maintains filing system for division. •Performs word processing work utilizing Microsoft Word. Prepares, edits, and distributes correspondence as directed. •Complies with Agency Records Retention requirements. •Maintains the office calendar; schedules meetings; notifies staff of committee hearings. •Assists in receiving, analyzing, and reviewing agency legislative requests for the upcoming session. •Performs other internal administrative support duties as assigned. •Delivers documents and other tangible things to offices within the Capitol Complex •Attends Committee hearings at the Capitol, and meetings within the agency with other LAG staff. •Visits and Corresponds with other divisions on their legislative needs and work with LAG and the legislature Qualifications EDUCATION: Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university or a recent graduate within one year. PREFERRED EDUCATION: Currently enrolled or recent graduate within one year of an accredited college or university with a minimum of 30 semester hours completed in public administration, government, public policy, statistics, economics, social science, finance, business, or related field. EXPERIENCE: Work or school experience in federal, state, or local government, or related field. Experience with administrative duties. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Experience working for a state or federal elected official.
