Job Description
The Office of State Senator Sylvia Garcia is looking for highly motivated, responsible individuals with a strong commitment to public service, who understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality and professionalism, to assist with operations of the Senator’s Capitol Office. Candidates must possess strong organizational skills. Position is for fall 2018, unpaid, part-time, and hours are negotiable. Interns are expected to commit to 10-20 hours per week and will set a regular work schedule within normal business hours of 8:30am-5:30pm in blocks of at least 3hrs at a time. Start and end date are flexible and we will work with your university to earn course credit for your internship, if applicable. Duties include but are not limited to: - Drafting fact sheets and background memos on a range of policy issues and legislation - Managing constituent casework and drafting constituent correspondence - Meeting with constituents and advocacy groups on assigned topic areas - Attending meetings on those topics and writing memos, as needed - Creating and maintaining physical and digital files - Helping with the inflow and outflow of mail and other correspondence - Reviewing media clips for policy ideas and constituent service opportunities - Working on special constituent projects and district focused activities, as needed
