Job Description
The capitol office of State Senator José Menéndez is offering an unpaid internship for the summer of 2017 to graduate and undergraduate students. The internship will be multifaceted with a particular emphasis on legislative research. The legislative internship program will teach students how to research legislation, develop policy positions, respond to constituent needs, and perform other tasks. The internship program will also allow students to work on their topics of interest when possible. All interns function as assistants to Senator Menéndez and the Senate office staff. They will be an integral part of the public service provided by the Senator's office. Applicants ought to possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills, solid computer and writing skills, have the ability to understand and explain complex policy issues, and display a strong work ethic. Applicants should have a strong desire to serve their community and be civically engaged. Most recently, Governor Abbott announced a special session that begins on July 18th and can last up to 30 days. The atmosphere of the Senate office can be very quick-paced and highly demanding. Therefore, a professional and courteous manner is expected at all times. The office of State Senator José Menéndez is open to working with the student's respective college or university to assist with course credit for the internship. The hours of the internship will vary dependent on the student's schedule.
