Job Description: 
Temporary Position – Summer Internship position will begin June 1, 2020 and end on August 14, 2020 (40 hours per week). Please note: Interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation. DIVISION: Information Technology GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Performs highly complex (senior-level) clerical work regarding the analysis of computer systems. Performs Linux system administration, and Application support. Work involves analyzing user requirements, procedures, and problems to improve existing systems and to automate processing. Troubleshooting basic hardware and software problems. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. WORK HOURS: Work hours are 8 AM to 5 PM, 40-hour week, Monday – Friday. Occasionally work additional hours. Must be able to work an eight-hour schedule between 6 am and 6 pm with occasional work schedule variance when necessary. Hours may change based on business needs and occasionally work additional hours based on business peaks. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain Unix/Linux operating systems and hardware • Monitor Unix/Linux systems for potential performance problems, analyzing problems to prevent reoccurrence • Assists in testing systems prior to deployment • Assist in automation scripting in an Enterprise platform for automation of Administrative tasks and provisioning (Hybrid Cloud, Chef, Ansible) • Research and recommend hardware and software architecture for enterprise storage, backup, and Unix • Monitor vendor advisories for security advisories, patches, and fixes • Stay informed on latest developments in storage and backups, Linux, Linux-platform applications • Set up new accounts; modify, delete account information • Evaluate needed access rights, validate; secure appropriate permissions • Document system requirements, configurations, procedures, changes, incidents, and problem resolutions • Set up new accounts; modify, delete account information • Evaluate needed access rights, validate; secure appropriate permissions • Document system requirements, configurations, procedures, changes, incidents, and problem resolutions • Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications EDUCATION: Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university PREFERRED EDUCATION: Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with course work in information systems, computer science or related field preferred. EXPERIENCE: Professional or academic experience in: • Systems administration and analysis • Administration of Red Hat Linux operating systems PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: • Experience implementing and administering Linux (i.e. Red Hat or similar) including BASH RUBY or YAML scripting • Enterprise Virtual Storage Systems, VMware or Nutanix Virtual Storage • System security (CIS, NIST) • Linux performance measurement and tuning tools • Using automated operations tools and centralized management of remote servers • Writing documentation PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Some lifting and/or moving, up to 35 lbs. of office equipment and/or materials may be required on a limited basis. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Marginal or corrected visual and auditory requirements are required for reading printed materials and computer screens and communicating with internal and external customers. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: • Linux operating system • DNS, TCP/IP, and networks as they affect server operation • troubleshooting processes and techniques SKILLS IN: • writing and maintaining simple BASH, Korn shell or relevant scripting for server administration • installing and maintaining server hardware • configuring server software • using a personal computer with Microsoft business suite application software, ie, Excel, Word, Visio • effectively conveying information and encouraging an exchange of ideas (Communication) • identifying, defining and solving problems (Problem Solving) ABILITY TO: • analyze systems and procedures and to explain abstract concepts in concrete terms • plan, coordinate, solve complex problems, and process information logically • work independently • deal tactfully and courteously with internal and external customers • interpret technical information relating to computer programming • perform mathematical calculations • write and revise standards and procedures • work with others to achieve a common goal (Teamwork) • adjust to changing workplace demands (Adaptability) • effectively demonstrate skill and ability to perform the specific job duties and tasks as defined by a job description (Technical Competence) • meet the needs and expectations of internal and external customers (Customer Service) • be dependable, meet deadlines and produce high-quality work (Workload Management/Productivity)
