Job Description
The Policy and Government Affairs Intern supports the efforts of RECA by assisting the CEO and the VP of Policy and Government Affairs, monitoring relevant local policy activities, conducting research, assisting with the efficient operation of committees, performing administrative duties, and contributing to the development and execution of RECA’s policy platform. This is a part-time hourly position that averages 15-20 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
-Monitor Austin City Council, boards, commissions, and other relevant public meetings,
track proposed regulatory changes at the county and state levels, and occasionally
monitor other nearby municipalities.
-Research pertinent policies and strategy for their application to current policy issues
facing the local industry.
-Produce written analysis of policies and research in a clear, concise, and frequently
exportable format.
-Attend and take notes at applicable stakeholder meetings, compiling research and
materials when necessary.
-Assist in managing and coordinating applicable RECA committee meetings and
communications, attend pertinent committee meetings, district team meetings, board
meetings and RECA functions as directed by the CEO or VP of Policy and Government
Affairs, and support planning and coordination of special events including fundraisers
and major meetings.
-Assist with the planning and production of the annual white paper written by RECA’s
young professional leaders group.
-Assist in developing positive relationships with elected officials and their staff, key
media outlets, boards, and partner organizations.
-Compile and file required lobbying reports, lobbyist registrations or other government
and/or Political Action Committee reports in consultation with the VP of Policy and
Government Affairs to ensure compliance with all relevant rules and regulations.
-Assist with local and state election strategy.
